They grow on decaying wood, leaf litter etc.
The fruiting bodies (sporocarps) may be directly attached or on a stalk.
Spores are in a spherical to cylindrical sporotheca that is enclosed by a wall (peridium).
The capillitium (sterile fibres in the sporotheca) is tubular.
Fruit bodies can be white, red, yellow or mauve.
