Found in many tropical areas they grow on dead or decaying wood where they cause white rot.
Some have fruiting bodies that only last one season while others last for more.
The fan-shaped fruiting bodies can be solitary or in clusters.
The flat side can have a narrow or wide attachment to the wood.
Occasionally it is so narrow it is almost a stalk.
The very thin caps are mostly around 6 cm wide and 4 cm deep.
The upper surface has concentric zones of pale yellow (ochre) to dark brown.
It can be smooth, have soft tangled or dense stiff hairs.
Typical pores are 0.5 mm wide and 6-sided but many are irregularly angled.
