The official name (Kew) is Pseuderanthemum maculatum var. atropurpureum.
Known in Australia as Pseuderathemum atropurpureum that name will be used here.
Other synonyms include P. carruthersii var. atropurpureum.
A small shrub that differs from the species plant by having different leaf and flower colours.
The upper leaf surface is a mix of pale and deeper shades of purple.
There may be some cream and/or green.
The lower surface is the same purple as the parent.
Flowers are mostly shades of pink and mauve with or without deeper markings.
P. atropurpureum var. atropurpureum ‘Variegatum’.
This variety has green leaves with cream markings.
There are numerous other cultivars.
